VICKY SHICK

Vicky Shick has been involved with the New York dance community for over three decades as performer, choreographer and teacher. During her years with the Trisha Brown Company, she received a New York Dance and Performance Award, a “Bessie,” for performance. Shick teaches, has created dances, and restaged Trisha Brown’s work in festivals and at universities in the United States and Europe, including her hometown, Budapest. Colleges where she has created dances on students include Arizona State University, Barnard College and George Washington University. Shick has taught at Hunter College, The New School, Princeton University, Rutgers University, for the Trisha Brown Company and at Movement Research. She has worked with many other performers and choreographers, including Yoshiko Chuma, Risa Jaroslow, Eva Karczag, Lisa Kraus, Stephen Petronio, Wendy Perron, Susan Rethorst, Sara Rudner, and more recently with Jon Kinzel, Juliette Mapp and Jodi Melnick.

Shick has collaborated with visual artist, Barbara Kilpatrick and sound designer, Elise Kermani for over a decade. They have presented seven evening-length works. In 2003,  their piece, “Undoing” shown at Dance Theater Workshop, was honored with a “Bessie,” and their most recent piece, “Everything You See,” presented at Danspace Project in April 2013, was a “Bessie” nominee for Outstanding Production.

Vicky Shick is a 2006 grant recipient from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and a 2008-2009 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow.
